Yes, its been in development for well over 1 year now, had some delays due to no other then not having time to get things done but I am glad to announce that WB News version 2 is almost ready to be beta tested. If you would like to be a beta tester this is the official thread to put your name down and be among the few who get to see wb news version 2.

You do not need to be a whiz bang programmer to take part just knowledge on how to install the system and report any bugs OR things you notice that should be fixed up.

I am expecting at the very latest to have a release out by this time next week but things are looking good to be ready much earlier then that. If you would like to get it before everyone else you can get it from the CVS repo (search the forums on how to get access, or PM me) you will need to use the tag dev_2-0 to get version 2 rather then HEAD

Added how to get the version 2 from repository
Code:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@wbnews.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wbnews export -r dev_2-0 wbnews

Should create a wbnews directory with everything required (except the tmp directory)

There will only be an archive file for when im ready to release the beta properly, early birds who want it now can do so via cvs but should expect a difference from the proper release and the version they have.

I want to be a beta tester.

In the beta dept, I've already got some experience via testing MyBB's upcoming release of their php/MySQL forum system.

Just an update on the Beta status, their are still some outstanding bugs and functionality missing which I'll be putting into Beta 4. I am expecting to have a release hopefully within the next week or two.

Im anticipating this to be the last beta as it will have all the features I wanted in production, currently we are missing multiple database support which postgresql will be added 'properly'

Thought I would give everyone an update on the current status for beta 4 where there are quite a few bug fixes as well as functionality which didnt exist prior put in, the biggest of which is support for PostgreSQL 8 which is currently the hold up. I am currently testing Postgres support and I expect it to take a little while to do. I still think we are Ok for end of weekend launch assuming I get no major hiccups.

Paul, does Beta 4 work for MySQL?  I think many of us don't care about PostgreSQL.
